The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme, BYD’s all-electric performance flagship, has achieved another extraordinary milestone. Just a month after shattering the world top-speed record at 496.22 km/h at Germany’s ATP Papenburg test track, the U9 Xtreme has now set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, widely regarded as the toughest racetrack on Earth.
On August 22, 2025, the U9 Xtreme completed the 20.832 km “Green Hell” circuit in 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds, breaking the previous electric supercar record by more than five seconds and becoming the first EV in its class to lap under seven minutes.
YANGWANG’s engineering team had been conducting extensive testing at the Nürburgring since mid-2024, refining aerodynamics, chassis setup, and battery thermal management. The lessons learned from these months of development culminated in a record-breaking performance that sets new global standards for electric hypercars.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li praised the team’s achievement:
“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of technology, and the Nürburgring is the ultimate test of performance. The U9 Xtreme has proven that it is not only the world’s fastest electric car in a straight line but also a true track machine capable of breaking records on the toughest circuit.”
The record-setting lap was driven by Moritz Kranz, a seasoned German GT racer with over 10,000 laps of Nürburgring experience. He commended YANGWANG’s engineering excellence:
“Balancing immense electric power with precise chassis dynamics at the Nürburgring is a monumental challenge. The U9 Xtreme delivered flawless control, proving BYD and YANGWANG’s capability to engineer a truly world-class racing EV.”
The U9 Xtreme is built on the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage all-domain platform and powered by four high-performance electric motors, each capable of 30,000 rpm. Combined, they deliver over 3,000PS and a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne, giving the hypercar its record-breaking acceleration and handling characteristics.
Equipped with YANGWANG’s e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body-control system, the car integrates “body-attitude control” technology to balance extreme top speed with agile cornering performance.
To master the Nürburgring’s punishing 20.8 km layout, the U9 Xtreme incorporates a new advanced cooling system, titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic brakes, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires, co-developed with Giti. These upgrades deliver exceptional endurance, braking stability, and cornering grip, enabling record-breaking performance even under intense track conditions.
The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme will be produced in a limited edition of just 30 units. The name “Xtreme” derives from the word ‘Extreme’, symbolizing the limitless innovation and spirit of exploration that defines YANGWANG’s philosophy.
With its Nürburgring lap record and world top-speed title, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has cemented its place as the fastest and most advanced electric hypercar in existence. It represents a bold statement from BYD’s luxury division, proving that electric mobility can rival — and surpass — traditional supercar performance.
