Yamaha Introduces YE-01, The Next Generation of Motocross

Electric mobility has moved far beyond scooters and commuter bikes, it’s now entering the high-octane world of Electric Dirt Bike motocross, where balance, control, and raw power define every ride. For years, motocross has evolved through lighter materials, smarter electronics, and better suspension. Now, the next leap might be electric. Yamaha is taking this challenge head-on with its YE-01 Racing Concept, developed in partnership with French electric trials specialist Electric Motion. While Electric Motion has made a name in competitive trials racing.

Yamaha brings decades of MX expertise through its YZ450F lineup. Together, they aim to create a bike that feels alive, authentic, and thrilling. Proving electric motocross can match the intensity of traditional gas-powered machines.

The Electric Dirt Bike and Its Purpose

The YE-01 is built around the 2026 YZ450F chassis, carrying over features riders already know and trust: KYB fully adjustable suspension, familiar ergonomics, and precise contact points. Yamaha designed it this way to make the transition from combustion to electric seamless for experienced motocross riders.

At its core is a liquid-cooled electric powertrain co-developed with Electric Motion. Delivering MXGP-level performance, roughly equivalent to a 450 cc motocrosser about 55 horsepower.

The low-slung battery improves the bike’s center of gravity, ensuring handling remains sharp and predictable, just like a traditional motocross machine.

Even with an electric setup, Yamaha kept a hydraulic clutch. A nod to the needs of serious motocross riders who rely on precise throttle control over jumps and tight ruts. Other features include:
