Pakistan Railways Opens Vintage VIP Saloon Coaches to the Public

Pakistan Railways has taken a bold and nostalgic step by unveiling its VIP saloon coaches—previously reserved for the country’s top officials—for public use. Once accessible only to the Prime Minister, federal ministers, and senior railway officials, these exclusive saloons are now open for booking by all passengers on major intercity routes such as Karachi–Lahore, Lahore–Karachi, Islamabad–Lahore, and Lahore–Islamabad.

A Ride Through History: Retro Luxury on Rails

The interiors of the newly accessible VIP saloons evoke a powerful sense of nostalgia. Featuring plush sofas, wood-paneled walls, and a vintage color palette reminiscent of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the coaches feel like a step into the past. From heavy drapes and patterned upholstery to retro televisions with visible wiring, every detail appears curated to preserve the atmosphere of a bygone era.

Public reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Social media users have lauded the move for its unique aesthetic, likening the saloons to a blend of a luxurious drawing room and a government office from decades past. Some have even suggested the saloons could serve as ideal settings for period dramas.

Affordable Luxury and Inclusivity in Motion

Opening these luxury railway coaches to the general public is more than just a novelty—it’s a strategic move by Pakistan Railways to promote inclusivity and make better use of existing assets. Despite their VIP heritage, the fares are designed to be affordable, offering the average traveler a chance to enjoy first-class comfort with a touch of old-world charm.

Whether you’re a history buff, a retro design enthusiast, or just looking for a more comfortable way to travel, these vintage railway saloons offer a unique and memorable journey across Pakistan’s key cities.
