Restrictions Imposed In Lahore on high-emission vehicles due to smog

Lahore Launches Free Vehicle Emissions Testing to Combat Air Pollution

Share

Lahore, a bustling metropolis and cultural hub of Pakistan, is taking decisive action to combat its worsening air quality. In a groundbreaking move, the Environment Protection Department (EPA) Punjab has introduced a mandatory Emissions Testing System for vehicles within the city. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce hazardous vehicle emissions and protect public health.

The vehicle emissions testing in Lahore is now more accessible than ever, thanks to the establishment of nine strategically located testing booths. These centers are spread across high-traffic areas to maximize convenience for residents. Testing booths are located at:

  • Mall Road, Istanbul Chowk, Town Hall Parking
  • Lake City, Al-Kabir Town, Raiwind Road
  • Kahna, Patwaar Khana, LDA Road, Gajumata
  • DHA, Packages Mall
  • Gulberg, Liberty Gol Chakar
  • Johar Town, Emporium Mall
  • Wapda Town, Evercare Hospital
  • Shahdara, Rescue 1122 Office, GT Road
  • Wahga Town, Police Station Manawan, GT Road

These booths are equipped with modern emission testing technology that delivers quick and accurate results. To encourage public participation, the government is offering free emissions testing for one month, making it easier for vehicle owners to comply without financial pressure.

The EPA Punjab has also launched a helpline (1373) and the Green Punjab App to guide citizens through the process, provide real-time updates, and answer queries.

Why Emissions Testing Matters?

Vehicles powered by petrol and diesel are key contributors to urban air pollution, releasing harmful substances like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. These pollutants significantly deteriorate air quality and are linked to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Regular emissions testing helps ensure vehicles meet environmental standards and identify high-polluting vehicles that need servicing or regulation.

By adopting this initiative, Lahore is making a vital move toward cleaner air and a healthier environment. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of the free testing period, ensure their vehicles are compliant, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for the city.
