Tourism in Murree is all set for a major transformation as the Punjab government has approved feasibility studies for two landmark projects: a Sky Walk Glass Bridge worth Rs. 72.152 million and a Chairlift & Cable Car from Lakot to Pindi Point costing Rs. 90 million. These projects are expected to significantly enhance Murree’s charm as one of Pakistan’s most popular hill stations for both local and international travelers.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), chaired by Planning & Development Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf. The meeting also gave the green light to a Cable Car project at River Indus, Kala Bagh, Mianwali, with an allocation of Rs. 81.571 million.
Major Projects to Uplift Tourism in Murree
The Sky Walk Glass Bridge in Murree will provide visitors with a thrilling experience and panoramic views of the scenic mountains, while the Lakot to Pindi Point Chairlift & Cable Car will improve accessibility and attract more tourists year-round. These projects highlight the Punjab government’s commitment to developing sustainable tourism infrastructure.
Other Approved Development Projects
In addition to Murree tourism schemes, the PDWP sanctioned several other projects across Punjab worth Rs. 5.118 billion, including:
- Rs. 1.374 billion for road construction from Danda Shah Bilawal to Ghool via Lawa, District Chakwal.
- Rs. 1 billion for the Chief Minister’s Minority Development Programme.
- Rs. 200 million for a feasibility study of a theme park in Lahore.
- Rs. 2.3 billion for the Accelerate Punjab Startups Tech Programme.
Senior officials including Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali, Secretary Tourism Raja Jahangir, Secretary Minorities Affairs Farid Ahmad, and Chief Economist Masood Anwar attended the meeting.
With the Murree Sky Walk Glass Bridge and Chairlift projects, the Punjab government aims to position Murree as a world-class tourist destination, ensuring economic growth and enhanced visitor experiences.
