The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) has taken a major step toward digitizing public transport by introducing the TCash Card, a tap-and-pay metro card designed to replace the traditional token system. The card will be the primary mode of payment across Punjab’s metro services starting October 2025, marking a shift toward cashless travel in the province.
What is the TCash Card?
The TCash Card is a reloadable travel card that can be used across all major metro services in Punjab, including:
- Metro Bus Service
- Speedo Bus Service
- Orange Line Metro Train
- Electro Bus (E-Bus)
Passengers can easily load credits online via the Etransit website or official mobile app. By tapping the card at entry and exit points, travelers can enjoy a faster, more seamless journey without the need for physical tokens.
How to Apply for the TCash Card
Citizens can apply for the card online through the Etransit portal or mobile app. The process involves:
- Registering personal details.
- Selecting a preferred metro station for collection.
- Tracking application status online.
- Collecting the card once it is delivered to the chosen station.
While the government has not yet announced the delivery timeline or issuance charges, the system is designed to ensure smooth onboarding for passengers.
QR Code Payments as an Alternative
For commuters without a TCash Card, the PMA has introduced a QR code payment option. Passengers will be able to scan QR codes inside buses and trains to complete fare payments, ensuring accessibility for all users.
Moving Toward a Cashless Future
The launch of the TCash Card is a transformational step for Punjab’s public transport. By eliminating tokens, the PMA aims to:
- Reduce queues and waiting times at stations.
- Encourage cashless transactions and digital payments.
- Streamline travel across multiple transport modes.
- Promote a more modern and commuter-friendly metro system.
The introduction of the TCash Card Punjab is expected to significantly improve the daily commuting experience for thousands of passengers. By October 2025, the traditional token system will be completely phased out, paving the way for a smarter, cashless, and more efficient public transport network in Punjab.
