National Highway Authority Bans HID Lights

The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has introduced a revised set of traffic regulations, imposing stricter penalties to improve road safety and enforce compliance. These new rules, set to take effect from October 1, come with significantly higher fines for various traffic violations.

A major update includes a complete ban on High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lights. Any driver found using them will face a fine of Rs 5,000. Authorities argue that HID lights can cause excessive glare, endangering both the user and other motorists on the road.

Additionally, the NHMP has introduced higher fines for other common violations. Motorists caught using mobile phones while driving will be fined Rs 500, while those failing to wear seatbelts will face a penalty of Rs 1,500. Furthermore, vehicles with unauthorized or decorative registration plates will attract a fine of Rs 1,000.

The primary objective of these new regulations is to promote responsible driving behavior and minimize road accidents. Many collisions occur due to negligence, such as distracted driving and failure to use seatbelts. By imposing stricter penalties, authorities aim to reinforce the importance of following traffic laws.

The NHMP emphasizes that these fines are not merely a means of generating revenue but are intended to encourage safer driving habits. Officials believe that when motorists are held accountable through financial penalties, they are more likely to comply with safety measures, ultimately reducing accident rates.

Drivers are urged to adhere to these revised regulations, not only to avoid hefty fines but also to contribute to a safer road environment. These measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring secure and efficient transportation for all road users. With these new rules in place, the NHMP is taking a firm step toward making highways and motorways safer and more disciplined.
