Sindh Government to Launch Pink Taxi Service for Women in Karachi

The Sindh government is preparing to roll out a Pink Taxi service dedicated to women in Karachi, as announced by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Speaking at a ceremony where free electric Pink Scooters were distributed to women, Bilawal said the new initiative would provide safer, reliable, and women-specific transport options in the city.

“This is only the beginning,” Bilawal said while addressing the event. “Very soon, we will hold another ceremony to introduce Pink Taxis for women.”

Building on Sindh’s Women-Centered Transport Initiatives

The upcoming Pink Taxi scheme follows Sindh’s earlier steps in addressing urban mobility challenges for women, including:

• The Pink Bus service, already running in Karachi.
• The distribution of free Pink Scooters for female students and working women.
• The induction of electric buses to modernize urban public transport.

With these initiatives, Sindh has become the first province in Pakistan to introduce multiple women-specific transport solutions.

Empowering Women Through Mobility

During the event, Bilawal Bhutto personally distributed scooter keys to women, highlighting the government’s commitment to reducing the travel difficulties faced by female students and professionals.

He emphasized that women’s empowerment is central to Sindh’s development agenda, noting that no country can progress without the active participation of women in every sector.

Broader Development Agenda

The announcement of the Pink Taxi service also came alongside other welfare measures by the Sindh government. Earlier this week, the province launched the Benazir Hari Card scheme, providing financial support to small farmers affected by floods.

This multi-pronged approach reflects Sindh’s vision of inclusive development, with a special focus on supporting women and vulnerable groups.
