The Sindh government has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its traffic penalty system, introducing new fines of up to Rs. 100,000 for major violations. The move is part of a broader effort to improve road safety, reduce traffic accidents, and enforce stricter driving discipline across the province.
The updated traffic rules—officially notified this week—target offenses such as speeding, reckless driving, underage driving, one-wheeling, and drunken driving. Authorities emphasize that these penalties are designed not just to punish offenders but to encourage responsible driving behavior and save lives.
Revised Fines for Speeding and Reckless Driving
Under the new framework, fines have been sharply increased to reflect the severity of each offense:
- Speeding Violations:
- Motorcycles: Rs. 5,000
- Cars & Jeeps: Rs. 10,000
- Public Service & Light Transport Vehicles: Rs. 15,000
- Heavy Transport Vehicles: Rs. 20,000
- Reckless or Negligent Driving:
- Cars & Jeeps: Rs. 25,000
- Public Service & Heavy Transport Vehicles: Rs. 50,000
The government believes these revised penalties will deter habitual offenders and promote safer driving habits, especially in high-traffic zones across Karachi, Hyderabad, and other major cities.
Strict Penalties for Driving Without a License
The new notification also addresses unlicensed driving with significantly higher fines:
- Car Drivers: Rs. 20,000
- Public Service & Light Transport Drivers: Rs. 25,000
- Heavy Transport Operators: Rs. 30,000
Officials warn that repeat offenders may face further legal action, including vehicle impoundment and suspension of driving privileges.
Wrong-Way and One-Wheeling Violations
Driving in the wrong direction on one-way streets or performing dangerous stunts such as one-wheeling now carries severe financial penalties:
- Motorcyclists: Rs. 25,000
- Cars: Rs. 30,000
- Public Service Vehicles: Rs. 50,000
- Heavy Vehicles: Rs. 100,000
Similarly, driving on the wrong side of the road will result in:
- Motorcycles: Rs. 5,000
- Cars: Rs. 10,000
- Public Service Vehicles: Rs. 15,000
- Heavy Vehicles: Rs. 20,000
These strict penalties aim to discourage dangerous driving practices that frequently cause congestion and accidents in urban areas.
New Rules for Parking Violations
In addition to driving-related offenses, the Sindh government has also tightened regulations around illegal parking. Parking more than 0.5 meters from the curb or on sidewalks now carries fines of:
- Motorcycles: Rs. 2,000
- Other Vehicles: Rs. 10,000–20,000
- Plus a 2-point demerit on the driver’s record
Parking less than 5 meters from another vehicle, on zebra crossings, or near hydrants and intersections will also attract similar penalties.
These measures aim to reduce congestion, especially in commercial areas where improper parking disrupts traffic flow and pedestrian movement.
A Push Toward Safer Roads in Sindh
By introducing these sweeping reforms, the Sindh government is sending a clear message that traffic law enforcement will be uncompromising. Officials believe that the combination of higher fines, demerit points, and stricter monitoring will help improve driver behavior and overall road safety.
Citizens are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new penalties to avoid fines and contribute to a safer, more disciplined traffic environment across the province.
