The Sindh Government has announced a landmark initiative to support women in the workforce by distributing 10,000 free electric motorcycles to female industrial workers. Introduced by Provincial Labor Minister Shahid Thaheem, the scheme aims to empower women, enhance workplace mobility, and promote sustainable transport in Pakistan.

Online Registration Now Open

According to the Sindh Workers Welfare Board (WWB), online registration for the program has officially started through the dedicated portal https://wwbs.gos.pk. The scheme is open to women between the ages of 20 and 45 years who are currently employed in the industrial sector.

To promote inclusivity, a 20% quota has been reserved for minority communities, ensuring that the initiative benefits a diverse group of working women.

Transparent Selection and Requirements

Applicants will be selected through a digital balloting system, which guarantees fairness and eliminates human interference. Women who are selected will be required to obtain a valid driving license within 60 days before officially receiving their motorcycles.

A Step Toward Women’s Empowerment and Sustainability

At the launch ceremony, Minister Shahid Thaheem emphasized the importance of safe and dignified transportation for women. He noted that mobility challenges often limit women’s participation in the workforce, and this initiative directly addresses that barrier.

He further added that by providing electric motorcycles, the government is also encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles, reducing pollution and dependency on traditional fuel.

Final Thoughts

This initiative marks a progressive step in addressing both gender equality and environmental sustainability. By supporting women in industrial sectors with modern, eco-conscious transport solutions, Sindh is setting a precedent for inclusive and forward-looking policymaking in Pakistan.
