Sindh Government Introduces Biometric Verification for Vehicle Registration

In a significant move to enhance transparency and combat fraud in the vehicle registration and transfer process, the Sindh government has announced the implementation of a biometric verification system. Following the introduction of a home-based vehicle registration service in August, these changes aim to modernize and streamline the registration process for vehicle owners in the province.

Phase Implementation of Biometric Verification

The biometric verification process will be rolled out in three phases:

  1. Phase One: Starting July 1st, all new vehicle registrations will require biometric verification. Buyers must provide their fingerprints and other biometric data to complete the registration process.
  2. Phase Two: Beginning November 1st, biometric verification will be expanded to include the purchase of used vehicles. In this phase, both the buyer and seller will be required to provide their biometric information to facilitate the transaction.
  3. Phase Three: In the final phase, biometric verification will become mandatory for all vehicle transfers, irrespective of whether the vehicle is new or used. This will further strengthen the integrity of the vehicle registration system.

Enhancing Transparency and Preventing Fraud

Sindh Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the importance of these changes in promoting transparency and preventing illegal activities within the vehicle market. By implementing biometric verification, the government aims to ensure that only legitimate transactions occur, reducing the chances of illegal vehicle transfers.

Convenient Verification Process

Citizens can complete the biometric verification process at NADRA e-facilitation centers or their local district excise offices. The procedure is designed to be straightforward, requiring individuals to provide fingerprints and other biometric data.

Modernizing Vehicle Registration Services

This initiative is part of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department’s broader strategy to modernize its services. Previous measures have included facilitating vehicle registrations at showrooms, introducing premium number plates to generate funds for flood victims, and offering home-based vehicle registration services.

The home-based registration service, which costs ten thousand rupees, allows biometric data collection and verification to be conducted at the individual’s residence. This innovative approach is expected to save time and effort for vehicle owners, who will no longer need to visit government offices for registration.

The Sindh government’s introduction of biometric verification for vehicle registration marks a significant advancement in the province’s efforts to enhance service delivery, improve transparency, and reduce fraud in the vehicle market. As these initiatives roll out, they are set to create a more efficient and trustworthy environment for vehicle transactions in Sindh.
