The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has sounded a severe flood alert due to rapidly rising water levels in the Chenab River, with floodwater now approaching the toll plaza near Sher Shah Pull. This critical bridge connects Multan with Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, and other cities in Southern Punjab, making the situation particularly alarming for residents and commuters.

Sher Shah Pull at Risk of Submersion

According to PSCA officials, once the water level reaches the toll plaza, the Sher Shah bridge may be completely submerged, effectively cutting off road connectivity between central districts and southern regions. This would severely impact both transportation and supply chains in South Punjab.

Expected Disruptions

If submerged, the closure of Sher Shah Pull could lead to:

  • Isolation of local residents in Muzaffargarh and surrounding towns.
  • Delays in emergency assistance and relief efforts.
  • Shortages of essential goods due to disrupted supply chains.
  • A complete halt in road travel between Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Safety Advisory for Residents and Commuters

PSCA has urged the public to take immediate precautions to ensure safety:

  • Cross Sher Shah Pull immediately if necessary; once the floodwater reaches the toll plaza, crossing will no longer be possible.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel near flood-affected areas.
  • Share alerts with family and friends to spread awareness.
  • Do not delay—any hesitation could leave travelers stranded.

Continuous Monitoring

Authorities are monitoring the Chenab River water levels around the clock and will issue further advisories as the situation develops. Residents are strongly advised to stay updated through official channels, remain cautious, and assist vulnerable community members.

Final Thoughts

The Sher Shah Pull flood alert highlights the growing severity of Pakistan’s flood crisis, particularly in South Punjab. As water levels continue to rise, timely precautions and community awareness will be crucial in minimizing risks and ensuring safety.
