In a major step toward modernising one of Punjab’s busiest livestock hubs, the Shahpur Kanjran Cattle Market is undergoing significant development — and at the heart of these upgrades is a newly launched tram service designed to transform the visitor experience.
The complimentary tram, now operational from Multan Road, offers direct transport into the core areas of the market, including the animal enclosures. This initiative is not just about convenience — it’s part of a broader effort to improve mobility within the vast marketplace, especially for buyers and visitors navigating the sprawling grounds.
Local feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Many visitors praised the tram for making their trip quicker and smoother, noting that the short ride saves time and energy, particularly during peak trading hours.
A representative from the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company (PCMMDC), which oversees the project, highlighted that the initiative addresses the needs of an increasing number of daily visitors. “Improving accessibility and comfort for our customers is our top priority,” he said. “The tram is just one part of a larger plan to modernise the market and enhance the quality of services for both buyers and sellers.”
With the footfall expected to surge in the lead-up to Eid-ul-Azha, the authorities are pushing to ensure the market remains well-organised, clean, and visitor-friendly. Alongside the tram service, PCMMDC is also working on improving sanitation, adding shaded waiting areas, and upgrading essential infrastructure.
Officials hope that Shahpur Kanjran’s transformation will serve as a model for other livestock markets across Punjab. As new systems are put in place, the market is not just becoming easier to navigate — it’s becoming a symbol of how traditional spaces can evolve with modern solutions.
