The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police has introduced special traffic management arrangements to handle the expected surge in vehicles and shoppers during the final ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative aims to ensure smooth traffic flow across major roads and busy commercial areas as citizens prepare for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr festivities.
According to officials, the measures were implemented on the instructions of Farhan Aslam, who directed the department to take proactive steps to manage the seasonal increase in traffic across the city.
Additional Traffic Personnel Deployed
Under the special traffic plan, additional traffic wardens and personnel have been deployed at key intersections, commercial markets, and major bazaars throughout Rawalpindi. The move is intended to prevent congestion and ensure a smoother travel experience for residents visiting markets for Ramazan and Eid shopping.
To further strengthen traffic control, office staff from the traffic department have also been assigned field duties. These officers will work in shifts until Eid to support wardens already stationed on busy roads.
Over 800 Officers on Duty Around the Clock
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam stated that the last ten days of Ramazan typically witness a sharp rise in shoppers visiting markets, which results in heavier traffic on city roads.
“During the last ten days of Ramazan, there is an unusual surge of shoppers in markets. Office staff have been assigned to field duty so that road users, particularly buyers, can move with ease,” he said.
He added that more than 800 traffic officers and personnel are performing 24-hour duties across Rawalpindi to maintain order and prevent traffic disruptions.
Special Squads Monitoring Violations
In addition to routine traffic management, special squads have also been deployed to monitor and prevent violations such as illegal parking, reckless driving, and one-wheeling. These teams will remain active in busy areas to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
Traffic wardens are already managing key roads with the cooperation of citizens, helping keep traffic moving despite the increase in vehicles.
Public Urged to Cooperate
The traffic police have urged residents to follow traffic rules, cooperate with officers on duty, and avoid parking vehicles in restricted areas, particularly around crowded markets. Authorities believe that public cooperation will play a crucial role in maintaining smooth traffic flow during the busy pre-Eid shopping period.
With the special arrangements now in place, officials hope the city will experience fewer traffic disruptions while residents continue their Ramazan shopping activities.
