The Rawalpindi Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Pakistan–South Africa Test match, set to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20 to 24, 2025. The initiative aims to ensure smooth traffic flow, minimize congestion, and provide maximum convenience to both commuters and cricket fans during the five-day event.
According to City Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam, a total of 367 traffic wardens and officers will be on duty around the stadium and nearby routes. These teams will manage diversions, assist motorists, and maintain order throughout the duration of the match. The CTO emphasized that all necessary measures have been taken to avoid unnecessary delays and congestion in key areas of the city.
Key Traffic Diversions and Road Closures
To maintain efficient traffic movement, several diversions have been planned:
- Traffic from Islamabad will be redirected from Faizabad to the Islamabad Expressway.
- Vehicles traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will be diverted from 6th Road to Saidpur Road.
- Stadium Road, extending from 9th Avenue Chowk to Double Road, will remain closed to all traffic during the match days.
Commuters are advised to use alternate routes such as IJP Road and Faizabad for intercity travel. Additional personnel will be stationed at major diversion points to assist drivers and prevent bottlenecks.
Facilities for Spectators and Public Updates
To facilitate cricket fans, dedicated parking areas have been arranged at:
- Civil Aviation Ground
- Shahbaz Sharif Park
- Government Graduate College, Satellite Town
From these locations, shuttle services will operate regularly to transport spectators to and from the stadium.
The CTO also highlighted that real-time traffic updates will be shared via social media platforms and local radio channels, enabling citizens to plan their routes efficiently.
Ensuring Safety and Smooth Operations
Rawalpindi Traffic Police have urged residents and visitors to cooperate with traffic wardens, follow posted signs, and avoid unnecessary travel near the stadium area during match hours. The department’s focus remains on ensuring public safety, traffic discipline, and convenience throughout the cricketing event.
With these proactive steps, authorities hope to make the Pakistan–South Africa Test match not only a sporting spectacle but also a well-organized and smooth experience for all attending fans.
