Rawalpindi Activates E Challan System for Traffic Violations

Rawalpindi has officially launched its automated e challan system for traffic violations bringing the city in line with major urban centres that have already adopted digital enforcement methods. According to SSP Safe City Rawalpindi the system became operational on November 22 with full integration into the Safe City Command and Control Centre.

The newly activated system automatically detects violations through high resolution CCTV cameras and issues e challans to vehicle owners along with photographic evidence. The objective is simple cleaner traffic flow improved safety and stricter accountability for road users across the city.

Over 2000 Cameras Installed Across Rawalpindi

More than 2000 surveillance cameras have been deployed at 359 strategic locations with an additional 15 cameras positioned at all major entry and exit points. These cameras are connected to the Safe City Command and Control Centre allowing real time monitoring and instant issuance of fines.

Under the new mechanism vehicle owners will receive e challans with images of their violations and a unique code. Fines must be paid before the given deadline or additional penalties may apply.

Instant E Challans for Major Traffic Offences

The system enables automated detection of the most common high risk violations. Instant fines will be generated for:

  • Motorcyclists riding without helmets
  • Driving without a seatbelt
  • Lane violations
  • Using a mobile phone while driving
  • Non standard or illegal number plates
  • Traffic signal violations

Once a violation is captured the challan is immediately issued and dispatched to the violator’s registered home address.

Strengthening Traffic Management and Public Safety

The expanded camera network is not only focused on issuing fines. It also supports broader traffic management efforts including monitoring road congestion tracking law enforcement performance and enhancing security across major public areas.

Officials believe the system will significantly improve driver discipline reduce road chaos and contribute to overall public safety. With digital enforcement now active the city aims to encourage responsible driving habits and reduce the number of preventable accidents.
