Punjab Unveils Billions in Development Funds for Rawalpindi in Budget 2025–26

In a decisive move to accelerate infrastructure growth in Rawalpindi, the Punjab Government has approved a significant development package as part of its Annual Development Plan (ADP) for the fiscal year 2025–26. The initiative, led by Engineer Qamar ul Islam Raja, Chairman of the District Coordination Committee and MNA from NA-53, focuses on boosting regional connectivity and easing urban congestion across the district.

Key Projects and Budget Allocations

A flagship component of the development plan is the long-awaited Rawalpindi Ring Road, for which Rs. 9 billion has been secured. This major investment will finally kickstart the delayed project and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and spur economic activity in surrounding areas.

Other major infrastructure projects approved in the budget include:

  • Rs. 2.3 billion for dualization of Gorakhpur–Khasala Khurad Road, improving regional access and vehicle capacity.
  • Rs. 1.7 billion for Tulsah Morr–Adiala Road Underpass, aimed at minimizing bottlenecks between Adiala Road and Chontra.
  • Rs. 3.5 billion for Khawaja Corporation Flyover and Underpass, to enhance urban mobility and reduce intersection delays.
  • Smaller but impactful allocations such as:
    • Rs. 2.0 crore for Choora Sharif to Malukal Road
    • Rs. 15.0 crore for Dhok Budhal to Sukho Road, linking Rawat directly to Chakwal Road

Regional Impact and Development Outlook

These projects are designed to transform Rawalpindi’s transport infrastructure, reduce urban congestion, and ensure safer, faster travel across key residential and industrial zones. The Ring Road alone is poised to redirect heavy traffic away from city centers, unlocking development potential in previously under-connected localities.

MNA Qamar ul Islam Raja emphasized that funds will be released immediately, ensuring that work can commence without delay. This reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to strategic and timely infrastructure development under Budget 2025–26.

With billions of rupees earmarked for vital road, underpass, and flyover projects, Rawalpindi is on the cusp of a major infrastructure transformation. The Punjab Budget 2025–26 prioritizes not just city-wide mobility but also economic uplift and long-term urban planning — setting the stage for a more connected and resilient Rawalpindi.
