Federal Government Approves New Interchanges for Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project

In a major boost for urban infrastructure in Lahore, the federal government has given the green light for the construction of two new interchanges that will directly connect the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) with key motorway networks. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan at the National Highway Authority (NHA) regional office.

Strengthening Ravi City’s Connectivity

The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) master plan aims to develop a modern urban hub along the Ravi River. To align this ambitious vision with Pakistan’s national highway infrastructure, the newly approved interchanges will be strategically constructed on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (LSM) Eastern Bypass and the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2).

These interchanges will provide direct, efficient access to Ravi City, reducing travel times for commuters and improving the movement of goods and services across the region.

Commitment to Timely Completion

Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of accelerating work on both interchanges to meet development deadlines and avoid delays. He directed all concerned departments to work closely with RUDA to ensure that the new interchanges complement the city’s overall urban expansion and integrate seamlessly with national highways.

The decision highlights the government’s commitment to creating a modern, well-connected urban environment around Lahore while addressing the region’s growing population and infrastructure needs.

High-Level Collaboration

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Federal Secretary for Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, NHA Chairman Shehryar Sultan, RUDA CEO Imran Amin, COO (retd.) Brig Mansoor Janjua, Executive Director (Engineering) Abdul Waheed Khan, and other top officials. Their participation underscores the collaborative approach between federal bodies and urban development authorities to push forward critical infrastructure projects like the Ravi Riverfront Interchanges.

Driving Urban Growth and Economic Activity

The new interchanges are expected to play a pivotal role in boosting economic activity, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing access to the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project, which is poised to become one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Pakistan. By improving connectivity with major motorways, the project will attract more investment, unlock new residential and commercial opportunities, and support sustainable urban growth for Lahore and surrounding regions.
