Ramadan 2025: Moon Sighting Decision Expected on February 28

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Peshawar on February 28 to observe the Ramadan moon and determine the official start of the holy month. The meeting, scheduled to take place after the Asr prayer, will be led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad. Simultaneously, zonal committees across the country will also monitor the moon and submit their reports.

Religious scholars from various Islamic backgrounds will participate in the meeting to ensure a unified decision regarding the commencement of Ramadan. Muslims around the world observe this sacred month with devotion, fasting from dawn to dusk, with the fasting hours varying by region.

However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the moon may not be visible on February 28. According to PMD experts, the new moon is expected to form at 5:45 pm that day, but it might not be visible to the naked eye. If the crescent is not sighted, Ramadan will likely begin on March 2 instead of March 1.

The final decision will depend on moon sighting reports from different regions. If confirmed, fasting will commence on March 1; otherwise, it will begin a day later.
