In a recent development that affects vehicle owners across the province, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has officially increased the transfer fees for motorcycles and vehicles by 10%, according to a report by City42. The revised fee structure has already been implemented and is applicable to all relevant vehicle categories.

Revised Transfer Fees for Motorcycles and Cars

As per the updated rates, the transfer fee for motorcycles has risen by Rs 55, increasing from Rs 550 to Rs 605. This adjustment will impact thousands of motorcycle owners across Punjab who plan to transfer ownership in the coming months.

For cars, the increase varies based on engine capacity:

  • Vehicles with engine capacities between 650cc and 1000cc now face a Rs 275 hike, bringing the new total to Rs 3,025.
  • Cars between 1000cc and 1800cc see an increase of Rs 550, pushing the fee to Rs 6,050.
  • For vehicles above 1800cc, the transfer fee has jumped by Rs 1,100, with the new amount now standing at Rs 12,100.
  • Additionally, Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) are also included in this revision, with a Rs 550 increase, setting the new fee at Rs 6,050.

Why the Increase Matters for Vehicle Owners?

This adjustment in transfer fees comes at a time when vehicle-related costs in Pakistan are already on the rise due to economic pressures, increased fuel prices, and additional levies. The hike may impact both individual owners and car dealerships that frequently handle vehicle transfers.

The Punjab Excise Department has clarified that the revised fee structure is now in effect and applies uniformly across the province. Citizens planning to buy or sell motorcycles, cars, or heavy transport vehicles should ensure they factor in the updated fees when calculating total transfer costs.

How to Pay Updated Transfer Fees?

Motorists are advised to check the updated fee details on the official Punjab Excise and Taxation Department website or visit their nearest excise office. Timely payment of the correct transfer fee is mandatory to legally update vehicle ownership records and avoid potential fines or delays.

The 10% hike in transfer fees highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to increase revenue through the excise and taxation system. While the increase may appear marginal for some categories, vehicle buyers and sellers should stay informed to avoid unexpected costs during the ownership transfer process.
