Nine major road development projects in Punjab approved

In a significant move to strengthen Punjab’s road infrastructure, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved nine major road development projects worth a combined total of Rs. 13.67 billion. The announcement came following a high-level meeting chaired by Barrister Nabeel Awan, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board.

The projects are aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, reducing travel time, and supporting economic activities across key districts of Punjab. These initiatives reflect the provincial government’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth and rural development.

Key Road Projects Approved

1. Lahore-Jaranwala Road (Nankana Sahib)

  • Scope: Dualization of a 14.61-kilometer section from Mandi Faizabad to Mangranwala
  • Cost: Rs. 1.163 billion

2. Sahiwal-Arifwala-Harappa Bypass

  • Scope: Rehabilitation of 26 kilometers via Malan Shah Chowk
  • Cost: Rs. 1.09 billion

3. Farooqabad to Tehsil Safdarabad (Sheikhupura)

  • Length: 23.75 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.512 billion

4. Safdarabad to Manawala Road (Sheikhupura)

  • Length: 19.5 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.18 billion

5. Chiniot to Tahli Adda via Sial Mor and Hilalpur (Sargodha)

  • Length: 34 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.94 billion

6. Sahiwal to Shahpur Road (Sargodha)

  • Length: 34.4 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.9 billion

7. Sangla Hill–Safdarabad Road (Nankana Sahib)

  • Length: 14.05 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.22 billion

8. Tandlianwala to Kamalia via Zaffar Chowk (Faisalabad)

  • Length: 59 kilometers
  • Cost: Rs. 1.82 billion

9. Taxila to HMC Farooqia (Rawalpindi)

  • Scope: Dualization of a 10.8-kilometer stretch
  • Cost: Rs. 1.86 billion

Boost to Economic and Regional Connectivity

These projects are strategically planned to benefit both urban and rural areas, making it easier for people and goods to move across districts efficiently. Improved roads will also enhance access to education, healthcare, and markets, especially in underdeveloped regions.

High-Level Oversight and Coordination

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, and several board members, indicating robust oversight and coordination for smooth project execution.

The PDWP’s approval of over Rs. 13 billion in road projects marks a transformative step toward modernizing Punjab’s transportation infrastructure. These developments are expected to significantly boost economic activity, enhance road safety, and contribute to the province’s long-term growth strategy.
