In a major leap toward clean and sustainable transportation, the Punjab government has made it mandatory to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at all fuel pumps across the province. This forward-thinking policy aligns with Punjab’s broader clean energy and climate action goals, aimed at tackling smog, reducing emissions, and cutting reliance on fossil fuels.
The decision comes as part of the provincial clean energy and climate policy, which emphasizes mass EV adoption as a key solution to Pakistan’s growing environmental and urban pollution challenges. With major cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan grappling with severe smog and rising fuel prices, the government sees EVs as a cleaner, more cost-effective, and future-ready alternative.
To make this transition smoother, Punjab has also approved the establishment of 2,000 EV charging stations at strategic locations across the province. This infrastructure expansion is expected to remove key barriers to EV adoption and encourage more people to shift away from traditional combustion vehicles.
Industry experts believe this initiative will boost green job creation, attract investment in EV and renewable energy infrastructure, and position Punjab as a national leader in eco-friendly transportation.
By ensuring widespread charging availability, the government aims to make electric vehicles not just a trend but a mainstream mobility solution for urban and intercity commuters. With consistent policy support and infrastructure growth, Punjab is paving the way for a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transport future.
