Punjab Attracts Chinese Letin Auto for Small EV Manufacturing Plant

Punjab is gearing up for a major industrial boost as China’s Letin Auto Group has announced plans to establish a small electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in the province. A 15-member delegation, led by General Manager Xu Zhen, recently met Punjab’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, in Lahore to finalize details of the project.

Punjab Government Offers Attractive Incentives

The provincial government has assured full support for the initiative, offering incentives such as a 10-year income tax holiday and duty-free import of machinery for plants in Special Economic Zones. Minister Shafay Hussain emphasized that Punjab is fast emerging as a hub for industrial investment, thanks to its favorable business climate. He noted that such projects not only strengthen the economy but also create thousands of new jobs.

Why Letin Auto is Shifting Focus to Pakistan?

Letin Auto, previously known as Levdeo Automobile Group, faced financial challenges in China in 2023 but successfully completed its bankruptcy reorganization in 2024. Industry experts suggest that Pakistan offers an ideal new base, thanks to competitive incentives and lower U.S. tariffs of just 19%. The move could help the company capture local demand and explore export opportunities.

Rising Wave of Chinese EV Makers in Pakistan

The arrival of Letin Auto adds to the growing presence of Chinese EV manufacturers in Pakistan. Companies like BYD, Changan, and MG have already introduced models in the market. Meanwhile, global brands such as Hyundai are preparing to launch their own EVs locally. Analysts predict this surge will intensify competition and reshape Pakistan’s auto industry.

Impact on Consumers and Local Industry

For consumers, the entry of affordable Chinese EVs means more choices, lower prices, and cleaner mobility options—a welcome shift as fuel prices continue to climb. For Punjab, it promises technology transfer, job creation, and a stronger industrial base.

A Game-Changer for Pakistan’s EV Future

Analysts believe the influx of Chinese EVs could disrupt the decades-long dominance of traditional automakers in Pakistan. With government incentives, consumer demand, and fresh investment, Punjab is poised to play a leading role in the country’s clean mobility transition.
