Punjab to Open First Heavy Vehicles Driving Training School in Lahore

To improve road safety and reduce the rising number of traffic accidents, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the province’s first Heavy Vehicles Driving Training School at Manawan Traffic Police Lines, Lahore. The initiative is a major step toward ensuring that commercial drivers of buses, trucks, and goods carriers are properly trained before hitting the roads.

High-Level Visit to the Training Facility

Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar recently visited the under-construction facility to review progress. He was accompanied by CTO Lahore Dr. Athar Waheed, DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir, DIG SPU Ghazi Salahuddin, and Safe Cities CEO SSP Amara Athar.

The officials discussed the importance of advanced driver training and how the new school will serve as a model for other cities across Punjab.

Modern Training with Advanced Simulators

According to officials, the school will provide specialized training for heavy vehicle drivers using modern technology and advanced driving simulators. Training programs will cover:

  • Passenger bus operators
  • Truck and goods transport drivers
  • Safety and traffic law awareness

The curriculum includes classroom lectures, practical driving sessions, and road safety workshops.

Certification for Trained Drivers

Drivers who successfully pass both theory and practical exams will be awarded official driving certificates, making them qualified for professional heavy vehicle operations. The goal is to minimize accidents caused by untrained and inexperienced drivers, especially in the commercial transport sector.

Commitment to Road Safety

During his visit, IG Usman Anwar also inspected the MT Section, Integration Center, and other departments at the Manawan Traffic Lines. Officials emphasized that the school is part of a broader vision to enhance traffic management, driver accountability, and public safety across Punjab.

With this initiative, Punjab sets a new benchmark in driver education, paving the way for safer highways and reduced road accidents.
