Punjab is taking a major leap toward sustainable infrastructure with the construction of its first dust-free road, the 93-kilometer Multan-Vehari Road, which is scheduled for completion by June 2026. The project reflects the provincial government’s commitment to providing cleaner, smoother, and more environmentally friendly travel options across the region.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who reviewed the progress of ongoing projects under the Communication and Works (C&W) Department and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

Public-Private Partnership for Key Road Projects

To accelerate infrastructure development, the Chief Minister approved a public-private partnership model for the construction, repair, and rehabilitation of five major roads across Punjab. Under this model, private sector institutions will handle project execution, ensuring efficiency and accountability.

Additionally, Maryam Nawaz directed the digitalization of toll plazas, with a unified “one-app, one-system” model to manage 38 electronic toll points across the province, following the example of Pakistan’s motorway network.

Sustainability and Cost Savings

Emphasizing innovation and fiscal responsibility, the Chief Minister announced Rs40 billion in savings achieved through the province’s e-tendering system. She also instructed that all newly constructed roads be equipped with solar-powered streetlights to promote sustainable energy use.

Urban Beautification and Flood Recovery Efforts

In Lahore, the government has launched several urban beautification projects targeting key areas such as the Railway Station, Misri Shah, Data Darbar, and Ik Moria and Do Moria Bridges. The initiative will feature a mini train and fountain near the Railway Station to enhance the city’s visual appeal.

Officials further reported that 54 bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods have already been rehabilitated, highlighting the administration’s swift response to infrastructure recovery.
