Punjab EPA Activates Green Sticker Vehicle Emission Testing System

The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially activated its vehicle emission testing system, with strict enforcement set to begin after the August 31 deadline. This move is part of the government’s efforts to combat rising air pollution and smog in major urban centers, particularly Lahore.

Enforcement Begins After August 31

Director General of the EPA Punjab, Imran Hamid Sheikh, confirmed that vehicles without a Green Sticker will face stern action. Initially, vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2015 are being targeted. Owners of these vehicles are receiving warning slips and e-challans by post. After the second warning, violators will face fines and legal proceedings.

Green Sticker Issuance & Testing Process

According to EPA spokesperson Sajid Bashir, emission checks for petrol and diesel vehicles are being carried out rigorously across Punjab’s urban areas. So far, over 350,000 vehicles have successfully passed the emission test and been issued the Green Sticker.

Only vehicles that pass the test—covering the engine, silencer, and catalytic converter performance—are eligible for the Green Sticker. Those failing the test risk penalties, and repeated violations may even result in vehicle impoundment.

Ban on Vehicles Without Green Stickers in Lahore

During the smog season, vehicles without the Green Sticker will not be allowed to enter Lahore’s roads. The EPA has made it clear: “No vehicle will be permitted without the sticker,” emphasizing the urgency of compliance.

Citizens Urged to Act Quickly

The EPA has urged citizens to get their vehicles tested immediately at authorized testing booths. A nominal fee for obtaining the Green Sticker will soon be officially announced.

Why This Matters?

Air pollution and smog have become a major public health crisis in Punjab, with Lahore often ranking among the most polluted cities in the world. By enforcing the Green Sticker system, the Punjab government aims to reduce vehicular emissions, improve air quality, and protect public health.
