Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the Punjab electric bus service will soon expand to four more districts in South Punjab, namely Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, and Taunsa. The announcement came during the inauguration ceremony of the electric bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan, where 101 modern electro buses were introduced as part of the first phase.

A Step Toward Inclusive and Eco-Friendly Transport

Maryam Nawaz described the project as a gift for ordinary citizens, women, students, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that modern and sustainable transport solutions reach every corner of Punjab. She stressed that Punjab’s resources will be utilized for the benefit of its people, with a commitment to ensure South Punjab is not left behind in development.

Gradual Expansion Across the Region

The project will be rolled out in phases, beginning with Dera Ghazi Khan and gradually covering other South Punjab districts. By including Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, and Taunsa in the next phase, the government aims to provide safe, reliable, and affordable mobility to underserved areas while promoting green energy solutions.

Public Ownership and Responsibility

The Chief Minister also urged citizens to take responsibility for the upkeep of these buses, reminding them that the system is public property. She called on communities to protect and maintain the new facilities so that the service can continue to benefit everyone for years to come.

A Vision for South Punjab’s Development

The introduction of electric buses aligns with Punjab’s broader vision for sustainable urban development and environmental conservation. By investing in eco-friendly public transport, the government is not only addressing mobility challenges but also contributing to a cleaner and greener future.
