Punjab Expands Electric Bus Network to 10 More Cities in Major Clean Transport Push

Punjab is accelerating its shift toward environmentally friendly public transport, announcing a significant expansion of its electric bus network to ten more cities. This move marks another major milestone in the province’s long-term clean mobility vision and reflects the government’s commitment to promoting pollution-free, modern, and reliable public transportation.

Officials confirmed that a new fleet of electric buses has already been arranged for the upcoming rollout phase. Once deployed, these buses will provide thousands of residents with a safer, cleaner, and more efficient travel option, improving access to schools, offices, markets, and intercity connections.

Cities Selected for the New Expansion

The next phase of the Punjab electric bus expansion includes the following cities:

  • Rawalpindi
  • Chakwal
  • Jhelum
  • Gujar Khan
  • Toba Tek Singh
  • Jhang
  • Bahawalnagar
  • Rahim Yar Khan
  • Rajanpur
  • Bahawalpur

These cities were selected based on population needs, traffic patterns, and existing demand for improved transport services.

Authorities shared that final route inspections and system testing are currently underway to ensure smooth operations from day one. Officials also highlighted that nearly 120,000 passengers use electric buses every day, demonstrating a rapid public shift toward cleaner and more convenient travel options. The expansion will boost the network’s coverage, reduce dependence on fuel, and help lower vehicle emissions across the province.

The official inauguration of this new phase is scheduled for November 19, 2025. The government believes that adding more cities to the electric transport network will significantly improve mobility, especially for residents living in smaller districts that previously lacked modern transport facilities.

With more electric buses being added in the coming months, Punjab is steadily moving toward a smarter, greener, and more accessible public transport system for all.
