Punjab to Give Electric Bikes to Government Employees

The Punjab government has announced a new initiative to provide electric bikes to Excise Department employees. The move aims to improve field performance and help the department meet its ambitious revenue recovery target of Rs. 73 billion.

Officials say the program will focus on enhancing mobility for inspectors who conduct field operations across the province. By introducing electric two-wheelers, the government also aims to reduce fuel costs and promote environmentally friendly transportation.

Under the plan, excise inspectors, including both male and female staff, will receive electric bikes based on their performance. Authorities believe that better transportation will help officers carry out inspections more efficiently and increase overall productivity.

In the first phase, the government will distribute 150 electric bikes along with 50 electric scooties for female inspectors. The project has received a budget allocation of over Rs. 50 million. Officials confirm that the procurement process is in its final stage. Distribution is expected to begin next month.

Distribution Plan and Employee Benefits

The initiative includes a long-term benefit for employees. The government will transfer ownership of the electric bikes and scooties to the employees after three years. This approach allows staff to use the vehicles for official duties while eventually gaining personal ownership.
