In a major step toward digital governance and citizen facilitation, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), in collaboration with the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department, has officially launched the registration process for the auction of “fancy” vehicle number plates through a dedicated e-Auction App and Web Portal.
This initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to digitize public services and promote transparency in administrative processes. Citizens interested in acquiring special vehicle numbers—commonly known as “fancy” or “VIP” plates—can now register and place their bids online from the comfort of their homes. The registration window is open until April 30, giving vehicle owners ample time to participate in the auction.
The digital platform, available both as a mobile app and a web portal, enables users to bid on unique registration numbers for motorcycles and cars. Not only does this provide convenience, but it also represents a systemic effort to reduce corruption and eliminate the long-standing influence of middlemen and agents who previously operated in the offline system.
“The e-Auction system not only promotes transparency but also plays a crucial role in eliminating corruption and the agent mafia,” said PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf, emphasizing the government’s commitment to clean, citizen-focused digital governance.
The portal also features real-time updates, including publicly viewable lists of successful bidders. This level of visibility further enhances transparency and accountability in the bidding process. Whether someone is seeking a unique number plate for personalization, prestige, or tradition, the system ensures fairness in access and bidding outcomes.
This initiative is part of a growing suite of e-governance tools introduced by the Government of Punjab to modernize administrative functions. By removing in-person barriers and reducing the role of intermediaries, digital platforms like the e-Auction app are playing a transformative role in improving public service delivery.
The move has been widely welcomed by citizens, many of whom previously faced difficulties navigating manual procedures or dealing with unauthorized agents.
Interested individuals can visit the e-Auction Web Portal or download the e-Auction App on their smartphones to register. After creating an account and selecting their preferred number plates, users can place bids and track results directly through the platform. The process is intuitive, and the user interface has been designed to accommodate a broad demographic of users.
The launch of the e-Auction system marks another milestone in Punjab’s journey toward a fully digital and transparent governance model. By leveraging technology to streamline processes and empower citizens, initiatives like this are setting the standard for modern public administration in Pakistan.
