The Punjab government has officially launched its first E-Taxi Scheme 2025 under the Transport Vision 2030, marking a major step toward sustainable and modern mobility in the province. The initiative aims to provide citizens with eco-friendly, affordable, and efficient travel options while also addressing the pressing issue of urban air pollution.

Key Features of the E-Taxi Scheme

According to official details, a total of 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed in the first phase of the program. Interested applicants can apply online at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk until October 5, 2025.

The scheme is designed to bring multiple benefits, including:

  • Reduction in air pollution through electric vehicles.
  • Lower fuel costs compared to conventional taxis.
  • Employment opportunities for drivers and operators.
  • Improved urban mobility with modern transport facilities.

Financing Arrangements for Electric Vehicles

The provincial government recently finalized a financing framework to make electric vehicles more accessible. Under the approved plan, participating banks will offer loans of up to Rs. 6.5 million for the purchase of EVs.

Key highlights of the financing plan include:

  • Subsidized down payment for buyers.
  • Government covering the interest cost of loans.
  • For EVs priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, the government will contribute Rs. 585,000 toward the down payment, while the remainder will be financed through partner banks.

Driving Towards a Greener Future

The Punjab E-Taxi Scheme is not just a transport project but part of a larger environmental strategy. By encouraging the use of electric vehicles, the government aims to reduce carbon emissions, modernize public transport, and align with global sustainability goals.

Officials believe that the program will significantly improve the quality of urban life while creating economic opportunities in the automotive and transport sectors.
