The Punjab government has confirmed that the balloting phase of its E-Taxi Scheme 2025 will take place in the last week of November, following overwhelming public response from aspiring drivers across the province. According to the Provincial Transport Department, more than 28,000 applicants have already registered for the initiative, reflecting the growing demand for affordable, eco-friendly, and income-generating mobility solutions.
Officials stated that complete applicant data has been forwarded to the Bank of Punjab (BoP), which will oversee and execute the computerised balloting process to ensure transparent and merit-based selection. Once successful candidates are announced, they will be notified to proceed with mandatory down-payment submissions. Authorities further confirmed that the electric taxis will be delivered within three to four months, provided all financial and documentation requirements are fulfilled on time.
About the E-Taxi Scheme 2025
Launched on September 17, the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025 aims to expand sustainable transportation, create employment opportunities, and reduce urban air pollution levels. In its first phase, a fleet of 1,100 electric taxis imported from China will be distributed, including 30 vehicles reserved for women, promoting female participation in the transport sector.
To support smooth implementation, the government is currently:
- Establishing EV charging infrastructure in major cities
- Coordinating with relevant departments for public facilitation
- Providing an interest-free financing plan for five years
- Launching an online system for application tracking and documentation
Officials expressed optimism that the E-Taxi initiative will become a transformational public mobility model, helping drivers increase earnings while contributing to clean-energy adoption across the province.
