In a significant move to reduce road accidents and improve traffic flow, the Punjab government has officially imposed a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcyclists across the province. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, marking a crucial step toward enhancing road safety.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, speaking at a press conference, expressed deep concern over the increasing number of road fatalities in the region. She emphasized that the speed limit aims to mitigate the dangers associated with high-speed crashes, particularly involving motorcyclists. By limiting their speed, the government hopes to create a safer environment for all road users.

Infrastructure Improvements for Bikers

Beyond implementing a speed limit, the Punjab government is focusing on improving the infrastructure for motorcyclists. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has initiated the construction of dedicated bike lanes in Lahore, with Ferozepur Road being the first phase of the project.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the importance of these dedicated lanes during the cabinet meeting. “All major roads in the province will soon have separate bikers’ lanes,” she announced, stressing the need for better infrastructure to protect motorcyclists and promote the smooth flow of traffic.

The dedicated bike lanes will be developed following modern standards, featuring clear road signs and high-quality special carpeting. These measures aim to provide bikers with a secure space on the roads, significantly reducing their exposure to high-speed traffic hazards.

Safety and Traffic Management Goals

These initiatives reflect the Punjab government’s proactive approach to addressing road safety concerns. The combination of a 60 km/h speed limit and dedicated bike lanes is expected to decrease accident rates and improve the overall traffic experience for commuters.

As these changes unfold, the province looks forward to safer roads and a better commuting experience for all. The government’s focus on sustainable and effective traffic management strategies showcases its commitment to public welfare.

What do you think about the new speed limit for bikers and the introduction of dedicated bike lanes? Is this a step in the right direction? Share your thoughts and join the conversation.
