In a major step towards citizen-friendly policing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the ‘Police Station on Wheels’ project in Islamabad, making basic police services more accessible for the public — especially senior citizens.
The announcement came during the Prime Minister’s visit to the Islamabad Safe City Capital Command and Control Centre, where he reviewed the centre’s modern security and monitoring systems. The new mobile police units are designed to bring police services closer to the people, removing the hassle of visiting conventional police stations for routine tasks.
According to Islamabad Police Chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the mobile police vans will allow residents, particularly those aged 60 and above, to file First Information Reports (FIRs) and obtain driving licences on the spot. This people-first approach aims to make police services more transparent, efficient, and accessible for the city’s residents.
During the launch ceremony, PM Shehbaz Sharif received the first honorary driving licence issued through the Police Station on Wheels and reviewed the first FIR filed under this new system. He praised the Islamabad Police for taking practical steps to modernize public service delivery and make law enforcement more approachable.
The Prime Minister also toured the Safe City Command and Control Centre, which acts as Islamabad’s nerve centre for crime prevention and public safety. The system integrates CCTV surveillance and AI-enabled software to monitor urban areas, track suspicious activity, and assist law enforcement in real-time.
He was briefed by Inspector General Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi about the Command Centre’s different sections, including facilities for taxi verification, women’s help counters, FIR registration, and vehicle licensing.
PM Shehbaz Sharif interacted with staff at the centre, inquiring about their daily operations and praising their dedication. He highlighted that the Police Station on Wheels Islamabad initiative is a practical solution for extending citizen services in a secure, tech-driven manner. The Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
The Police Station on Wheels reflects the government’s commitment to modernize policing with innovative solutions. By combining mobile services with the Safe City’s smart infrastructure, Islamabad Police aims to build trust with the public and deliver faster, safer, and more convenient services.
