In a major step towards sustainable transport and green mobility, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that top-performing students across Pakistan will receive free electric bikes.
This initiative aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan, reduce costly fuel imports, and support the country’s environmental goals.
According to Radio Pakistan, high-achieving students from all educational boards, including the Federal Board, will benefit from this free electric bike scheme. A 25% special quota has been reserved for women, while provincial quotas will match population shares. The Prime Minister directed that Balochistan’s share be increased to 10% to ensure fair representation.
In addition to free EV bikes for students, the government is working on a plan to provide electric rickshaws and loaders to unemployed people across Pakistan. The goal is to create new job opportunities, promote green entrepreneurship, and support low-income communities.
To make electric vehicles more affordable, the government plans to offer low-cost, soft loans for the purchase of electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders. Over 100,000 electric bikes and more than 3,000 electric rickshaws and loaders will be available under this scheme.
The new EV initiative is expected to attract investment in Pakistan’s local EV industry. Four new battery manufacturing companies will soon launch operations, creating jobs and boosting local production capacity for electric vehicles.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized transparency in the distribution process. He directed that all aspects of the scheme undergo third-party validation to ensure fair distribution. The government will also run a nationwide awareness campaign to inform citizens about the benefits of electric vehicles and how to apply for the scheme.
All electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders provided under this program will meet high quality and safety standards to protect users and the environment.
With the launch of this ambitious free electric bikes for students scheme and support for unemployed youth, Pakistan takes a significant step towards a cleaner, greener future. By promoting eco-friendly transport, the government aims to conserve foreign exchange spent on fuel, reduce emissions, and strengthen local industries.
