Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially launched international operations from the newly constructed New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA). On Friday, flight PK-197, carrying 39 passengers, departed from Gwadar to Muscat, Oman, marking a historic milestone for the region. This inaugural flight signifies the commencement of a weekly service aimed at meeting the growing demand for travel between Gwadar and Oman while also enhancing regional connectivity.
The New Gwadar International Airport, which began its operations just a week ago with its first commercial flight, represents a significant achievement in Pakistan’s aviation history. Spanning 4,300 acres, NGIA is the largest airport in Pakistan. It is expected to play a pivotal role in linking Gwadar with global destinations, fostering economic growth and development in the region.
With state-of-the-art facilities, NGIA is designed to handle both passenger and cargo traffic, making it a strategic hub for international trade. The launch of international flights to Muscat will not only ease travel for residents but also attract investors and tourists, boosting Gwadar’s emerging reputation as a commercial and tourism hotspot. This connectivity will play a critical role in transforming Gwadar into a gateway for regional and global trade.
