Fuel Price Update: Petrol Price Unchanged, High-Speed Diesel Reduced by Rs.2 Per Litre

In the latest fortnightly fuel price review, the government has kept the price of petrol unchanged, while providing minor relief on high-speed diesel (HSD) by reducing its price by Rs.2 per litre. This adjustment is effective immediately and will remain in place for the next 15 days.

According to the updated pricing details:

• Petrol remains at Rs.252.63 per litre

• High-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs.256.64 to Rs.254.64 per litre

This decision comes amid fluctuating global oil prices, with authorities opting for a cautious pricing strategy. While petrol consumers will not see any change at the pump, the reduction in diesel price may offer some relief to the transport and logistics sectors, which rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles for long-distance haulage and commercial operations.

High-speed diesel plays a critical role in powering buses, trucks, and agricultural machinery across the country. Even a small reduction in its price can have a ripple effect on transportation costs, and potentially on inflation, especially in goods and services dependent on road transport.

Although consumers had hoped for a broader reduction in fuel prices, particularly for petrol, the unchanged rate reflects global market trends and the government’s balancing act between providing relief and maintaining fiscal stability.

Energy analysts suggest that future fuel price movements will depend on international crude oil trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and domestic taxation policies.

The next fuel price review is expected at the end of the current fortnight. Until then, consumers and businesses alike will continue to monitor oil price trends closely, hoping for further relief in the next update.
