Peshawar announce expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to additional routes

KP Government Approves Peshawar BRT Phase 2 with New Routes and 50 Imported Buses

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has reportedly given the green light to Phase 2 of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, with an estimated budget of Rs. 20 billion. This ambitious expansion aims to improve public transportation in Peshawar by introducing new routes and increasing fleet capacity.

According to sources, Phase 2 of Peshawar BRT will extend services along key corridors, including Ring Road and Dalazak Road. As part of the expansion, the government plans to import 50 new buses from China, designed to enhance service frequency and reduce traffic congestion in the city.

This move comes despite the fact that two major buildings from the original Phase 1 of the BRT project, launched in 2020, remain incomplete. However, officials have already allocated necessary funds for Phase 2 in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, underlining the province’s commitment to expanding its urban transport infrastructure.

The new buses, expected to be state-of-the-art and fuel-efficient, will help meet the growing demand for reliable, affordable, and sustainable public transport in the provincial capital. Once operational, Phase 2 is projected to significantly improve commuting conditions for thousands of daily passengers.

The Peshawar BRT system is one of the most significant public transport initiatives in the region. With its dedicated lanes, modern stations, and integration with feeder routes, it has already transformed mobility for many residents. The second phase is poised to build on this progress by extending the network into more densely populated and underserved areas.

The KP government’s continued investment in public transportation highlights its focus on sustainable urban development, reduced environmental impact, and improved quality of life for citizens.
