The International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 kicked off in Karachi with a spectacular display of modern defense technology, including Pakistan’s third-generation Haider tank. Running from November 19-22, the exhibition brought together 550 exhibitors, including 340 international defense companies, and officials from 55 countries, marking a significant event in the global defense industry.

The Haider tank, presented by Heavy Industry Taxila, drew attention for its advanced features and capabilities. Anza Aqeel, representing Heavy Industry Taxila, highlighted the tank’s auto-tracking system, remote-control weaponry, and impressive cruising range of 470 kilometers. The Haider tank is equipped with an autoloading system that can fire up to eight rounds per minute, enabling it to operate effectively both during the day and at night. This technological advancement positions the Haider tank as a formidable asset to Pakistan’s defense forces.

In addition to the Haider tank, the exhibition introduced the Shahpar-III drone, a cutting-edge aerial surveillance system used by Pakistan’s military. The drone, along with other defense technologies, emphasizes Pakistan’s growing focus on modernizing its defense infrastructure to keep pace with global trends.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, addressed the importance of enhancing defense exports to match the country’s potential, urging greater collaboration between the public and private sectors. He stressed the need for innovative defense solutions and highlighted that Pakistan’s defense industry could benefit from sustainable growth and strategic partnerships with international defense manufacturers.

IDEAS 2024 also featured a “Startups Pavilion,” showcasing new technologies developed by young Pakistani entrepreneurs. This initiative aims to promote innovation and build a sustainable defense sector driven by local talent.

IDEAS 2024 not only emphasizes Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its defense capabilities but also reflects the nation’s ambition to expand its role as a key player in the global defense market. Through its robust defense exhibitions and continued technological developments, Pakistan is positioning itself as a growing force in modern defense innovation.
