Pakistan Railways has announced plans to launch a new shuttle train service connecting Lahore, Kasur, and Pakpattan, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and offer a budget-friendly travel option for passengers across Punjab. The initiative underscores the government’s efforts to improve public transportation and reduce dependence on road travel.

According to railway sources, a comprehensive feasibility report for the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle train has already been completed and submitted for administrative approval. The report evaluates the technical condition of the tracks, estimated passenger demand, operational costs, and potential economic benefits of the service.

Affordable and Sustainable Travel for Punjab Commuters

Once approved, the short-distance train will operate between Lahore and Pakpattan via Kasur, offering an affordable, comfortable, and reliable alternative to road transportation. The new route is designed to serve daily commuters, students, and traders, providing a convenient link between key economic and educational hubs.

Officials say the new service will help reduce fuel expenses, ease traffic congestion on busy highways, and revive smaller railway stations that have been underutilized in recent years. By making rail travel more accessible, the initiative also supports Pakistan’s broader goal of sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.

Reviving Pakistan’s Rail Network and Local Economies

The Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle train is part of Pakistan Railways’ broader modernization strategy, which focuses on improving infrastructure, safety, and passenger experience. Enhanced connectivity between these districts is expected to boost local trade, encourage tourism, and strengthen economic integration within the province.

For traders and small business owners, improved railway access will mean faster and cheaper movement of goods. Similarly, students and employees will benefit from a dependable daily commute that saves both time and money.

A Step Toward Modern, Efficient Public Transport

Pakistan Railways’ move to introduce new regional shuttle services represents a significant investment in public mobility. If approved and implemented successfully, the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle could serve as a model for future regional rail projects, supporting the government’s vision of modern, sustainable, and inclusive transportation across Pakistan.

Disclaimer: The Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle train project is currently under review and will commence after final approval from Pakistan Railways.
