By The Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Pakistan, has officially granted its first international ferry service license to global operator Sea Keepers, authorizing routes connecting Pakistan with Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The decision followed a high-level meeting involving representatives from the Ministries of Maritime Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Interior, as well as the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and port authorities.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity through Sea Routes
According to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, this milestone is aligned with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision and Pakistan’s National Maritime Policy. The ferry routes are expected to serve:
- Pilgrims traveling to Iran and Iraq
- Workers and tourists heading to GCC countries
- Pakistani diaspora seeking affordable travel options
Initial Operations from Karachi and Gwadar Ports
The initial operations will be launched from Karachi and Gwadar, using modern, well-equipped ferries that ensure safe, comfortable, and affordable travel. These vessels will feature:
