In a landmark development for Pakistani motorists, the Pakistan International Driving License now allows citizens to legally drive in 132 countries worldwide. This initiative opens the doors for travelers, expatriates, and business professionals to enjoy seamless mobility across borders without the hassle of obtaining separate local driving permits.

For years, the process of securing an international driving permit was considered complicated and time-consuming. However, recent updates have streamlined the procedure, making it easier for Pakistanis to apply and benefit from international driving privileges.

Countries Where Pakistanis Can Drive

Pakistani drivers can now explore destinations across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. The list includes prominent countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Japan, Italy, and Spain—along with many others spanning every continent. In total, the license is valid in 132 countries, offering a wide range of travel, tourism, and work opportunities.

How to Obtain a Pakistan International Driving License?

Applying for an international driving license requires fulfilling specific documentation and procedural steps. Applicants need:

  • Attested copy of a valid passport
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Three photocopies of CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card)
  • Copy of a valid national driving license
  • Medical certificate (mandatory for applicants above 50 years)
  • Blood group report (required by Motorway Police applicants)

The application process involves visiting the Driving License Authority office, where applicants undergo biometric verification, an eyesight test, and in some cases, a traffic signs or scenario-based written test (such as at Islamabad Traffic Police). A practical driving test may also be conducted under official supervision.

Upon successful completion, the International Driving License is usually issued within one week, empowering Pakistani drivers to travel confidently abroad.

The issuance of the International Driving License is more than just paperwork—it represents an opportunity for Pakistanis to explore the world freely. Whether it’s for tourism, overseas employment, study abroad, or business travel, the permit ensures smoother road journeys and reduces dependency on local transportation in foreign countries.
