Pakistan Fuel Prices Likely to Rise from September 16

Motorists in Pakistan may soon face another increase in fuel prices as the government considers revising petroleum rates effective September 16, 2025. According to industry sources, the expected hike is linked to global oil market trends and fluctuations in the local currency, which continue to drive up costs.

Expected Increases in Petrol and Diesel

Preliminary estimates suggest that petrol prices could rise by more than Rs. 1 per liter, while diesel may see a sharper increase of nearly Rs. 5 per liter. The revision would also affect kerosene oil and light diesel, further raising costs for households and small businesses.

Impact on Inflation and Daily Life

Fuel price hikes in Pakistan have a direct impact on transportation costs and overall inflation, especially since diesel is widely used in goods transportation. A surge in diesel rates could create a ripple effect, leading to higher prices of essential commodities and everyday necessities across the country.

Government’s Review Process

Officials have confirmed that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is finalizing calculations for the revised fuel prices. The summary will be forwarded to the Petroleum Division on September 15, after which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will make the final decision.

If approved, the new prices will be implemented starting September 16, with an official announcement expected a day prior.

Broader Economic Concerns

The potential hike comes at a time when living costs are already rising, putting additional financial strain on the public. Transporters and industrial stakeholders are particularly concerned, as increases in fuel prices often push up logistics and supply chain expenses, worsening the inflationary cycle.

The upcoming Pakistan fuel prices September 2025 revision could significantly affect citizens, industries, and the economy at large. As the government prepares to make its announcement, both consumers and businesses remain on edge, waiting to see how the adjustments will shape their financial outlook.
