The Pakistani automobile sector witnessed an impressive rebound in May 2025, with a significant month-on-month and year-on-year increase in car and two-wheeler sales. According to the latest report from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the industry is showing clear signs of recovery following a period of stagnation and declining consumer demand.

Car Sales Rise 39% Month-on-Month

After a modest dip of 5% in April, car sales surged by 39% in May, totaling 10,949 units, compared to 7,881 units in April 2025. Year-on-year, sales rose 35%, boosting overall sales for the first eleven months of FY25 to 126,226 units, a sharp 39% increase from 90,545 units in the same period last year.

Key performers among local manufacturers included:

  • Toyota Pakistan: 5,519 units (+48%)
  • Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC): 4,829 units (+20%)
  • Honda Atlas: 2,005 units (+17%)
  • Hyundai Nishat: 1,307 units (+45%)
  • Sazgar Engineering: 919 units (-67%)

Best-Selling Car Models in May 2025

Among individual models, Suzuki Alto remained the top-seller with 3,409 units, up 50% from April. Other high performers included:

  • Toyota Corolla & Yaris: 3,814 units (+52%)
  • Honda City & Civic: 1,870 units (+19%)
  • Hyundai Tucson: 569 units (up from just 5 in April)
  • Haval (Sazgar): 915 units (+70%)

However, not all segments fared well. Models like Hyundai Sonata (-38%), Santa Fe (-36%), and BAIC (-60%) saw notable declines in sales.

Motorcycle and 3-Wheeler Sales Also on the Rise

Motorcycle and three-wheeler sales were also strong, growing 11% month-on-month to 150,175 units, and 26% year-on-year. Key highlights:

  • Atlas Honda: 130,240 units (+13%)
  • United Auto: 13,525 units
  • Pak Suzuki: 2,854 units (+51%)
  • Yamaha Pakistan: 597 units (+20%)

This marked Atlas Honda’s highest monthly sales in history, driven by price stability and strong resale value of models like the CD70 and CG125.

Commercial Vehicles Rebound

The commercial vehicle segment also showed recovery, with truck and bus sales increasing by 17%, totaling 610 units in May 2025 compared to 520 units in April.

Outlook for the Auto Sector

The sales spike in May 2025 highlights growing consumer confidence, stabilized financing conditions, and stronger macroeconomic fundamentals. While not all brands experienced growth, the overall industry trajectory is positive.

As we move into the final month of FY25, automakers will be closely watching fiscal policy, fuel prices, and potential tax reforms in the upcoming budget, all of which will influence future sales trends.
