Orange Line Services Suspended in Islamabad and Lahore Amid Security Precautions

Authorities have temporarily suspended Orange Line operations in both Islamabad and Lahore following the enforcement of Section 144 across Punjab. The decision, announced on Friday, comes amid security concerns and traffic management challenges caused by road closures at several key points in both cities.

In the federal capital, the Orange Line bus service has been halted, while in Lahore, the Orange Line Metro Train has suspended its operations until further notice. Officials stated that the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding commuters and maintaining public order during the province-wide enforcement of restrictions.

Section 144 Imposed to Maintain Law and Order

The Punjab Home Department confirmed that Section 144 was imposed in response to potential threats to peace and security. Under the order, public gatherings, protests, rallies, sit-ins, and processions have been banned until October 18.

A department spokesperson further clarified that the order also prohibits:

  • Display of weapons
  • Use of loudspeakers
  • Distribution of inflammatory or sectarian material

The measure, officials said, is part of a broader strategy to prevent unrest and ensure public safety across major urban centers, particularly Lahore and Islamabad, which often serve as focal points for large gatherings.

Commuter Advisory and Resumption of Services

Authorities have advised citizens to stay informed through official announcements regarding the resumption of Orange Line services. Both the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) and the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) are coordinating to restore normal operations once road closures are lifted and the security situation stabilizes.

Commuters are encouraged to use alternative transport options and plan their routes in advance to avoid inconvenience.

Officials assured the public that the suspension is temporary and will be lifted once conditions return to normal. The move underscores the government’s priority on safety, stability, and effective traffic management during this period of heightened alert.
