In a groundbreaking step toward green mobility, HUBCO Green (Private) Limited (HGL)—a subsidiary of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO)—has inaugurated Pakistan’s first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Charging Station on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2). The project, launched in collaboration with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and electric vehicle leader BYD Pakistan – Mega Motor Company (MMC), signals a pivotal moment in the country’s transition toward sustainable transport.
Strategically located at the Magic River Rest Stop, one of the busiest travel routes in the nation, this state-of-the-art EV charging station addresses “range anxiety” among electric vehicle users, encouraging long-distance NEV travel across Pakistan.
A Nationwide Vision for Green Transport
The M-2 charging station is the first phase of HUBCO Green’s broader plan to develop a comprehensive NEV infrastructure network. HGL plans to install charging stations every 200 km from Karachi to Peshawar, ensuring consistent and reliable access for intercity travelers.
At the launch event, Kamran Kamal, CEO of HUBCO, said:
“This partnership with PSO is a step toward building Pakistan’s green mobility ecosystem. With this launch, we reaffirm our commitment to a cleaner, greener Pakistan.”
Technology Meets Convenience
The charging station features a 60kW fast charger, capable of simultaneously charging two NEVs. For example, the BYD Atto 3 can reach a 50% charge in under 30 minutes, offering up to 160–200 km of range—ideal for travelers seeking quick recharges without delays.
To enhance the user experience, the location includes:
- VIBE Café: Barista-level coffee and artisan snacks
- VIBE Store: SEED-certified, modular convenience retail
- Asaan Safar Amenities: Executive comfort and travel support via the Fuelink app
Collaborative Effort Toward a Greener Future
Danish Khaliq, VP Sales & Strategy at BYD-MMC, emphasized:
“We aim to develop a nationwide EV charging network. Our fast-charging technology ensures efficient travel along Pakistan’s main routes.”
Mohsin Mangi, CSTO at PSO, added:
“This isn’t just a station—it’s a smart, sustainable hub that reflects our long-term environmental commitment.”
This milestone underscores the synergy between HUBCO, BYD-MMC, and PSO in reshaping Pakistan’s energy and mobility future. With the launch of this flagship NEV charging station and a clear roadmap for expansion, the foundation is laid for a truly electric, eco-conscious Pakistan—from Karachi to Peshawar.
