The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) has confirmed that construction of the long-awaited Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza in Lahore will begin next month. Preparatory work is already underway for the project, which is designed to address severe parking shortages in one of Lahore’s busiest commercial hubs.

Originally conceptualized by the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), the project was later handed over to TEPA for execution. It will feature a four-story underground parking facility spread across 16 kanals of land, making it one of the largest planned parking plazas in the provincial capital.

Project Details and Facilities

According to TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain, the plaza’s first level will house shops that will be allotted to traders whose businesses are being acquired for the project. The remaining three floors will provide parking capacity for 374 cars and 790 motorcycles.

“The aim is to ease congestion in this busy commercial hub by eliminating parking problems,” Hussain said while briefing LDA Director General Tahir Farooq.

The parking facility will also include:

  • A modern parking management system
  • CCTV surveillance for security
  • Fire safety systems
  • Washrooms for visitors
  • Compensation packages for affected shopkeepers, including one-year financial assistance for business losses

Expansion Plans Across Lahore

Officials also revealed that similar parking plazas are planned for Nasser Bagh and near the historic Tollinton Market, both of which are high-traffic areas facing acute parking issues.

During the briefing, the LDA DG instructed TEPA to ensure a transparent bidding process, maintain construction quality, and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

The Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza Lahore is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and business activity in the congested commercial district. By providing safe and organized parking for both cars and motorcycles, it will ease roadside congestion, reduce traffic jams, and support traders by offering them modernized shop spaces.

As Lahore continues to expand and modernize, infrastructure projects like these will play a crucial role in improving urban mobility and enhancing the city’s commercial environment.
