NDMA Issues Landslide Alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and AJ&K Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh landslide alert for the northern mountainous regions of Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K). This advisory comes in response to forecasts of isolated and widespread heavy rainfall across several valleys and districts in the coming days.

Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Northern Pakistan

According to the NEOC, isolated heavy showers are expected in the valleys of Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamir, Ghanche, and Shigar. Meanwhile, widespread downpours have been predicted for Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Haveli, Bagh, and adjoining areas in AJ&K. Additionally, multiple sites in Rondu Valley, mapped under the Joint Slope Reconnaissance (JSR) program, are susceptible to landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls.
