By In a major step toward digitizing public services, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in collaboration with the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has introduced a mobile biometric verification system for vehicle transfers. This new initiative is aimed at making the vehicle ownership transfer process more secure, transparent, and user-friendly for citizens across Sindh.
How the New System Works?
Under the new system, both buyers and sellers can perform biometric verification using their mobile phones, eliminating the need for initial visits to NADRA or registration centers. The verification process is carried out through the official Pak-ID mobile application, which is available for both Android and iOS devices.
Users simply download the app and verify their identity by using their phone’s camera. The app supports fingerprint scanning and facial recognition, ensuring that the person initiating the vehicle transfer is the legitimate owner or buyer. Once biometric verification is successfully completed in the app, the system digitally confirms the identity with NADRA’s central database.
Excise Visit Still Required
While the mobile biometric verification simplifies the process, users are still required to visit the Sindh Excise Department to complete the remaining paperwork and formally finalize the vehicle transfer. However, officials state that completing biometric verification beforehand significantly reduces processing time and minimizes the chances of fraud or impersonation.
Enhanced Security and Transparency
One of the key benefits of this system is improved security. By integrating digital identity verification, the Sindh Excise Department ensures that both parties involved in a vehicle transfer are genuine. This move is expected to curb illegal transfers, fake ownership claims, and unauthorized transactions that have long plagued the vehicle registration system.
Mandatory Implementation in Phases
According to officials, biometric verification via the Pak-ID app is being made mandatory in phases. Initially, selected cases will require verification, but eventually both buyers and sellers will be required to complete biometric authentication before any vehicle transfer can be approved.
