Murree is gearing up for a record influx of visitors this Independence Day, as thousands of tourists from across Pakistan head to the popular hill station for celebrations. To ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar has unveiled a comprehensive Murree traffic management plan for 14 August 2025.
Over 200 Traffic Officers Deployed
More than 200 traffic wardens will be stationed across key routes to manage vehicle movement and guide travelers. Main access roads, including the Murree Expressway and RMK GT Road, will remain open from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
However, several inner-city routes will temporarily operate as one-way to prevent congestion. These include:
- View Forth Road
- Bank Road
- Hall Road
- Kuldana Road
- Imtiaz Shaheed Road
Meanwhile, Mall Road—Murree’s most popular pedestrian spot—will remain closed to vehicles, allowing visitors to enjoy a safer, walkable environment.
Five Traffic Sectors for Better Coordination
Murree has been divided into five traffic sectors, each with dedicated teams to ensure quick response times. Heavy vehicles such as large buses will face restrictions between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM, with checkpoints at:
- Murree Brewery
- Bansra Gali
- Lower Topa
For travelers heading to Azad Kashmir, traffic will be diverted via the Expressway to keep Murree’s central routes clear.
Parking Restrictions and Visitor Guidance
Parking will be strictly prohibited within 200 meters of busy intersections, including GPO Chowk and Kuldana Chowk. Visitors are urged to use only designated parking areas to avoid fines and improve traffic flow.
For assistance, tourists can contact the Murree Traffic Control Room at 051-9269200.
With these measures in place, authorities aim to ensure that everyone visiting Murree on Independence Day can enjoy the celebrations without traffic chaos or safety concerns.
